The JEM Trail, Bearclaw Poppy system, and Hurricane Rim trails are world-renowned. Moab-caliber slickrock riding exists right in the St. George backyard.

Sand Hollow and Quail Creek Reservoirs offer year-round boating, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and swimming in stunning red rock settings.
ATV & Off-Road

Sand Hollow Reservoir
Sand Hollow State Park is one of Southern Utah's most beloved outdoor destinations. The 1,000-acre reservoir sits among dramatic red sandstone formations and offers boating, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, fishing, and camping. The adjacent Sand Mountain Recreation Area provides miles of ATV and off-road trails through sand dunes and rocky terrain.
Located in Washington City, Sand Hollow is approximately 15 miles from downtown St. George — close enough for an afternoon outing, spectacular enough to feel like a true escape.

Natural Swimming Holes
Southern Utah is full of hidden natural wonders that most visitors never discover. Natural swimming holes fed by mountain springs, slot canyons accessible only on foot, and ancient Native American sites tucked into canyon alcoves reward those willing to explore beyond the main park corridors.

Escape the Heat
Mountain Escapes
When St. George's summer heat peaks in July and August, the surrounding mountains offer cool alternatives. Brian Head Ski Resort at 9,600 feet is 90 minutes away and features summer mountain biking and cool temperatures even on the hottest desert days.
Cedar Breaks National Monument at 10,000 feet offers stunning subalpine scenery and wildflower meadows. Duck Creek Village and Kolob Reservoir provide pleasant summer retreats. Many Southern Utah residents own or rent mountain cabins as summer escapes.
